How did you get started?
I became the founder and president of Genesis Art Supply and ArtSupply.com in 1986. My father, Sheldon Goldman, started the store in 1945 as Sheldon's Art and Drafting Supplies. I was the marketing manager and general manager of Sheldon's Art Supplies in Chicago from 1975-1989. The journey to the nearly 17,000-square-foot headquarters at 2525 N. Elston Ave. in Bucktown is the culmination of a lifetime dream of mine.
It was my dream to be a hub for artists and give back to the artist community so the larger space — over five times as large as the existing 3,000-square-foot space in Bucktown — allows us to offer acrylic, oil and airbrush painting workshops as well as provide a gallery, lounge and performance space for artists of all types.

Airbrush supplies, acrylic and oil paints, foamboards, canvases, drafting supplies and furniture.

What's on the stereo?
Quennect 4 Radio, the independent radio station we host in our gallery event space. It is the community's media source; focusing on the arts, community, and multi-national activism. All the programming and music created on the station is homegrown and community created.

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?
Our gallery, The Genesis Gallery Event Space, has hosted a wide array of programs, workshops, and events. From Redbull's Breakfast Club Launch Party to the Slanted Canvas event showcasing customized skate and bike ramps painted by some of the most popular artists in the city.
