How did you get started?
Beth Bergman, the owner of Wet Paint, started as an art student at Macalester College and worked at Wet Paint when it began in 1976. Soon after, Bergman bought the store in 1984 and moved the shop to its present larger location at the corner of Grand and Cambridge. In the last 30 years, Bergman and Wet Paint have been recognized locally, nationally, and internationally for their support of the arts, artists, and independent business.
Where are you located?
Wet Paint is a single location, independent art supply store on St. Paul’s vibrant Grand Avenue, serving the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota and the world beyond.
Which products do you specialise in?
The store stocks over 35,000 products from around the world for work in almost any medium, and for all kinds of artists of all ages, including: paints, brushes, pencils, pens, printmaking supplies, coloring books, framing, and specialty papers. We are well- known for our extensive paper department where we stock thousands of decorative and handmade papers available by the sheet.
Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?
There are so many favorite products, and each of us on staff has our own, but one that stands out is our Custom Schmincke Horadam 1/2 Pan Watercolor Set. This limited edition set is unique to our store and is a perfect item for beginning or professional watercolorists. It features super moist ½ pan watercolors in a classic black metal tin. The current custom palette - chosen by Wet Paint’s own Kate Katzer – features 10 gorgeous, saturated, transparent colors, plus 2 unique earth tones, offering a huge range of vibrancy, depth & texture. Love!

Where else should we visit in your area?
We are located in a fabulous area of St. Paul on Grand Avenue, which has numerous shops and restaurants within walking distance. On the surrounding blocks by our store are coffee shops, restaurants, and various retail shops so you can park and easily spend an afternoon in the neighborhood.
Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?
Yes, we do! We have a changing schedule of workshops and classes, free events and demonstrations, and unique special events like visiting artists and art history lectures- all of which can be found on our website under our "Events" page. http://info.wetpaintart.com/index.php/events/
Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
One of the main things that we are known for is our great customer service. Our staff has worked in the art materials industry for many years and almost all of us are also working artists in the Twin Cities community. We use the products we are selling and can assist in the selection of materials for any creative project. We are also just really friendly and love to talk about art and materials!
