• 

  Step 1

  Find a heart shape online and print out (I Googled 'heart shape') I used a shape about 2 inches high. You could also draw your own.

  Pin your heart shape to red felt and cut around the template (or draw around your template and cut out).

  Make two red felt hearts like this.

  Step 2

  With your white embroidery thread and embroidery needle (you need a needle with a large eye for the thick, stranded thread), embroider a kind of star/snowflake shape.

  Start with a long vertical stitch...

  Step 3

  ... then follow with a short horizontal stitch across the top.

  Step 4

  Work round until you have 6 evenly spaced spokes to make your star/snowflake shape.

  Step 5

  Then, add some textured dots by sewing French knots at the top of each spoke.

  Step 6

  Next, put your 2nd heart behind the embroidered one, and start to use your white embroidery thread to blanket stitch the two together, around the edge.

  Leave a gap along one of the sides.

  Step 7

  Into the gap, push your puff of stuffing (I used basic polyester toy stuffing), to give a bit of volume to your brooch.

  Then sew up the gap, putting your final knot just at the back of the brooch so it is not visible.

  Step 8

  Finally, sew a brooch back onto the back of your brooch, using a sewing needle and red thread.

  Then wear or give with pride!
