don't drop it!
A co-worker was going to jail for the weekend so I decided to make him some soap on a rope... he didn't get it, but the joke landed with everyone else so it was well worth the effort!

  • How to make soap. Jail Soap - Step 1
    Step 1

Get yourself a bar of glycerine soap (I used Neutrogena because that's all I could find) and some cording. You'll need enough to be able to slip the bar over your head easily.

  • How to make soap. Jail Soap - Step 2
    Step 2

If your soap comes wrapped up like mine, open up one end only. I don't know if all glycerine soap is like this, but mine was sticky so I left it in the plastic while I worked with it.

  • How to make soap. Jail Soap - Step 3
    Step 3

You'll need a paddle bit or something that has a similar shape to help bore out the soap from the hole you'll need to make for the cord. You don't need a drill since the soap is soft enough to just turn the bit by hand.

  • How to make soap. Jail Soap - Step 4
    Step 4

Stick your bit in the middle of the opened end of your soap and start turning until you're about 3/4 of the way down the bar, being careful to go straight so you don't come out the side or go through the bottom.

  • How to make soap. Jail Soap - Step 5
    Step 5

Stop every now and then to pull out the soap shavings and set them aside in a microwavable container.

  • Step 6

Heat up your shavings for just a few seconds and dip the ends of your cord in the melted soap and roll them a bit to make them nice and stiff and straight. Put any excess back in the container to heat again.

  • How to make soap. Jail Soap - Step 7
    Step 7

Reheat the rest of the soap shavings and pour about halfway up the bar hole and immediately push the cord ends in. You'll want the soap to squeeze out at the top of the hole to make sure you have enough filling up the hole around the cord.

  • Step 8

Let cool and close the ends of the packaging back up and you are no longer in danger of dropping the soap in the shower!

I love the title! Not sure where I would use this though...I really don't plan on going to jail, and if I ever did I think I would just use the drill to exscape. haha!
