Learn how-to use knit pro blocking mats with McAree Brothers in Edinburgh, Scotland.

How did you get started?

McAree Brothers was founded in 1878 by 3 brothers. When Lucy, the grand-daughter of one of the founders, took over the business it was a general department store in Stirling. She knew that the company needed to specialise and became fascinated by the knitting yarns. We now sell knitting yarns and haberdashery from 3 stores in Scotland.

Where are you located?

We have shops in Edinburgh, Stirling and Falkirk. They are all very central and easy to get to from the train station. Details can be found in the About Us section of our web site. Our Stirling store is the largest specialist knitting store in Scotland. Our Edinburgh store is in the beautiful historic Georgian area of Edinburgh. Our Falkirk store is our discount store where you can grab a bargain on discontinued lines.

Which products do you specialise in?

We sell yarn brands Adriafil, Erika Knight, Jamieson & Smith, Patons Regia, Rowan, Sirdar, Sublime, Wendy. We also have a very large haberdashery section and we stock many types of knitting needles including KnitPro.

Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?

It has to be the KnitPro Karbonz needles. They are so smooth and light. We sometimes find ourselves stroking them!

What's on the stereo?

Peace and quiet.

Where else should we visit in your area?

Both Edinburgh and Stirling have castles and the views from both of them are stunning. Stirling Castle is one the largest and most important castles, both historically and architecturally, in Scotland. The whole of central Edinburgh is a World Heritage Site and our shop is within this area. If you love history then you will be in paradise in both these cities.

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?

We have a dedicated workshop room in our Stirling store. We hold classes most weeks and tutors include Carol Meldrum, Kat Goldin, Karie Westermann, Debbie Abrahams and Sarah Hatton.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We are all mad about knitting and crochet. We have one of the largest internet shops in the UK and we ship all over the world. If you need to get in touch with us you know that the person answering the phone or e-mail will be a knitter just like you.
