An easy way to make new shelf brackets look old
You can easily make new shelf brackets look like rusty, old metal ones with just a little paint. This is a cheap way to get the farmhouse look you like.

Step 1When you are using shelving in your decor it is not always easy to find old, rusty farmhouse brackets to go with your decor.
You can find these new brackets at Home Depot for only a couple of dollars each. They are a great shape and are easy to paint to look like the rusty, old brackets you love.

Step 2Begin by painting the new brackets black. Dab it on and don't worry about covering all of the silver. Leaving a little of the silver exposed gives it an authentic look.

Step 3Once the black paint is dry, dab on some chocolate brown paint to mimic rust. Again, don't cover up all of the black and silver underneath.

Step 4Your new rusty brackets are now ready to be attached to a piece of reclaimed wood.
