• Step 1

  1. make a tube top

  Measure on the upper part of your chest, above your breasts, cut that in half, and add an inch for seam allowance. Determine how long you want it to be and remember that there will be a small skirt on the end. Cut that out and sew along the long sides. If you are using another shirt, fit it to your body, determine the length and cut that out.

• Step 2

  2. make the top accent

  choose a fabric that goes well with your tube top and using the measurement for your tube top, cut out a strip that is that long by 6 inches wide or however long it needs to be to go below your breasts. Add an 2 inches for seam allowance or one if you have a serger.

• Step 3

  3. Hem the accent

  double-turn hem the bottom or serge it for a clean finish.

• Step 4

  4. sew it to the tube top

  However contrary to most projects, the right side of the accent should be facing the wrong side of the tube top. This way when you flip it over, the seams will be covered.

• Step 5

  5. Topstitch

  Flip it right side out and topstich around the accent and tube top. Try not to pull or it will get all wonky.

• Step 6

  6. Make the bottom skirt

  Take out your accent fabric and fold it in half. take your tube top measurement and double it. This will be the length and the width will be 4.5 inches plus 2 inches for seam allowance or one if you have a serger.

• Step 7

  7. Hem the bottom

  Serger or double-turn hem the bottom.

• Step 8

  8. Attach it to the tube top

  Fold your skirt piece into quarters and mark the fold. Then do the same to the Tube top. This will help you to attach it to the top. match the pins together and pin. Pleat in between where they are pinned. this takes some time, so pop in some music!

• Step 9

  9. Sew

  Sew all around the top making sure the you are going with the pleats and not against them. Top stitch

• Step 10

  10. Straps

  take some scraps from the accent fabric or tube top fabric and cut out 4 inches by however long you need to tie around your neck from the middle of the tube top. Sew up the sides and sew a diagonal at on end and turn inside out.

• Step 11

  11. attach straps to tube top

  Bring together the two side seams and mark the center front. Position the straps the and angle them slightly away from each other. Sew.

• Step 12

  12. Finito!

  Now you have a cute summer top for any hot beach party or family gathering. Have fun!
