A simple, hair bow made from a camera film negative strip,
I was sitting in photo class when I realized that a couple of inches from my negatives were black (and therefore, useless). Bored, I started to bend my film and realized I could make a bow. I waited til I found more useless film before I could make a how-to. My original is better than my how-to bow though > <

It's a lot easier to wear if you have light colored hair (unlike me).

  • How to make a recycled hair clip. Film Negative Bow - Step 1
    Step 1

Gather your supplies: film, scissors, tape, and a bobby pin.

    Step 2

Cut off maybe half an inch on the film. This will later be the center of your bow.

    Step 3

Find the middle of the bow and pinch it, as to make a crease.

    Step 4

Bend the edge of the film to the center. Don't crease it! It will be hard to work with, but a bow looks better puffed.

  • How to make a recycled hair clip. Film Negative Bow - Step 5
    Step 5

Fold in the extra film to meet the center crease. Tuck it inside the two flaps that the center crease makes. Put a small strip of tape onto it, don't worry about it being visible.

  • How to make a recycled hair clip. Film Negative Bow - Step 6
    Step 6

Do the exact same thing as in steps 4 & 5 to the other side. Tape it down.

Fold the 1/2 inch piece if film in half to make two little squares. Put this piece onto the bow's front to hide the tape. Tape it on the back so it will stay.

  • How to make a recycled hair clip. Film Negative Bow - Step 7
    Step 7

(It may be hard to see) Insert the bobby pin INTO one of the tape pieces already on the back. Make sure you know which way the bobby pin should go into your hair, and which side of your head you'd wear it.

    And you're done!

I was acutally going to use some negatives from my photo class to make a bow as well, but I wasn't quite sure how I'd go about it.
Thanks for this Happy!
