Keep it simple with a cork board mouse pad
I love how simple and effective this is.
I used the lid of a cookie tin to trace out my shape, cut it out and that's it. However I did notice that some of the edges would fray pieces of cork board, so I just sealed the edges and one side with modge podge. SO I end up with one slick slide, and one coarse side, which the mouse works just fine on.
And of course, if you don't like round, you can always go with square. But really easy pea-sy!
