Beautiful Argyle Headbands - Made From Something Extra Weird!
Yeppers, this is the headband I'm wearing in my profile picture. And double yeppers, it's made from a trash receptacle.

Look for cheap "woven" plastic baskets in cute colors - they are everywhere. Cut them up to make headbands and even jewelry, with an interesting argyle-style diamond pattern that looks really mod.

There isn't anything complicated about it - just cut and layer sections of the basket. For a headband, follow these steps:

Use scissors to cut two long, slender oblongs from a plastic basket. One piece should be a little longer than the other.

Layer the two pieces OFFSET by one diamond, so the diamonds overlap in a geometric argyle pattern.

Cut a length of ribbon long enough to wrap your head and tie a bow at the back of your neck. Thread the ribbon in and out through the overlapping diamonds, essentially weaving the two pieces together.

That's a headband! Adorable and weird, eh?

You can embellish with anything you love - silk flowers, more ribbon, beaded ornaments, whatever. Cut smaller sections of the basket to make bracelets, earrings and necklaces, too!
