As for a how to. I didn't write this pattern down. I just sit down and start designing and ya never know what I come up with.

You start with a basic beanie hat pattern and you increase to 5sc, then you just start shaping each piece to make it look like Cheshire...sorry I am so vague, but I just go by the seat of my pants :o)
