  • How to recycle a neck tie skirt. All Tied Up - Step 1
    Step 1

It has been a while since I posted on Cut Out & Keep. I needed a new computer and now that I have it I am back in business. This project is one that I have been planning for a year now. I bought some vintage neck ties and thought they would be a great addition to one of my old jean skirts. I fearlessy cut the bottom portion off the skirt and got ready to work!

    Step 2

I held the skirt up and pinned one tie on so I could determine the length I wanted the skirt to be.

I lined up the ties in the order I wanted them. I had to plan the lay out somewhat because I didn't want all the stripe ties together and some of the designs clashed a bit. So I pinned them together at the sides and took the piece to the sewing machine.

I just top stitched the ties together down the sides with black thread until I had the makings of a skirt. Then I pinned it onto the bottom of the jean skirt so I could attach it.

I serged the seam after I stitched it so it wouldn't ravel. It fit really well I used about 20 ties.

I just love the inside of the skirt it is so cool! I would love to make a project from just the labels! Here is an inside view of the ties all stitched up. Love it!

Here is the finished project. I love the designs on the ties they are so cool! I have several other jean skirt projects to do so keep watch I am sure they will be fun!

Here is the backside (Can't believe I am brave enough to share this picture) I just wanted you to see the ties. I still have all the material from the bottom of the skirt and the left over neck tie pieces. I am thinking that they would make a great tote bag! Hope it doesn't take me another year to get to that!!!! Thanks for stopping by!

Cool skirt! If I were to make this, I would only make one change. Instead of cutting off the bottom of a jean skirt, I would cut off the legs of an old pair of jeans. Reason #1, my jeans always wear out on my inner thighs, making them unwearable and hard to patch. Reason #2, now I have all the material from the jean legs to do another project with. Now I just need to slowly start pilfering my husbands tie collection...
