• 

  Step 1

  Choose some material; I'm a big fan of refashioning and I love love LOVE the material of this Marks & Spencer dress but the bodice is a bit small, so I decided to cull fabric from it for this project.

  Step 2

  Cut a strip the width of your passport, and twice the length.

• 

  Step 3

  Fold it in half (right sides facing each other) and stitch around the edges, leaving a gap so you can turn it right side out.

• 

  Step 4

  Turn it right side out and stitch the opening closed.

• 

  Step 5

  Cut two strips of ribbon (I used quite thick ribbon) that are the same length as the width of the fabric (confusing, right?) and pin in place.

  Step 6

  Zig zag stitch the ribbon in place. The ridge in the middle of mine is because I had initially cut it so it was more like a trapezoid than a rectangle, so I had to make a dart to make it more rectangular; hopefully you won't encounter the same issue!

  Step 7

  Cut another length of ribbon that is long enough to wrap around the passport and tie in a bow.

  Step 8

  Since my ribbon was so thick I decided to sew it in half, but leave about three inches unfolded at the ends to give some volume to the ends of the finished bow. Pin where you want the seam to finish...

  Step 9

  ...and stitch the ribbon closed.

  Step 10

  Wrap the ribbon around the passport, tie it in a bow, and figure out where you'll need to attach the ribbon to the cover. Mark by pinning the ribbon on the cover just before the ribbon flaps on the inside (you don't want to stitch them closed!) Stitch along the top and bottom of the ribbon, making sure not to stitch over the flaps, and you're done!
