Easy tote bag, made with t-shirt yarn.
This can be as big or as small as you want to make it. And what ever colors you chose. I used t-shirts I bought for a quarter at a local thrift shop and 2 handles from an old handbag. You can line it or not, it's all up to your discretion and creativity.
My example here is just playing with what I had on hand.
Have fun.

  • Step 1

T-shirts are used as yarn. I cut off the hem and then below the arms. Then cut into strips and pull tight to make the yarn. There are "how to" examples of this on this website.

  • Step 2

Depending on the size you want your bag to me - chain stitch to that width - then chain 3 more.

  • Step 3

in the 4th chain stitch - double crotchet and continue until the end of the row.

  • Step 4

Chain 3 - and begin the next row of double crotchet. This continues until you have a rectangle that when folded in half is the size of the bag you want to make.

  • Step 5

If you chose to line the bag - now is the perfect time. Just hand stitch in a lining of your choice - perhaps a piece of t-shirt, that's what I used.

  • Step 6

Using more t-shirt yarn - stitch sides together using single crotchet.

  • Step 7

Add handles by tying on the outside of the bad with a piece or 2 of t-shirt yarn.

You can also make handle out of the t-shirt yarn.

Ta-da - your bag is complete.
