A garter stitch triangle with a light and lacy border and some nupps thrown in for extra fun.
Worked in Rowan Kidsilk Haze, it is light but cozy at the same time.

  • Step 1

    Garter Triangle
    With circular needle, cast on 1 st.
    Setup: Kfb (2 sts)
    Next row: Kfb, knit to end (1 st increased)
    Repeat the last row until there are 155 sts on
    needles.

  • Step 2

    Garter Edging
    Eyelet row: * yo, k2tog * to last st. Yo, K1. (156
    sts) Do not turn work. Provisionally cast on 3
    sts. Turn work.
    RS row: K2, k last st and once from centre
    triangle together. Turn (1 st decreased)
    WS row: K3, turn work.

    Repeat last two rows until all of the 156 sts
    from the centre triangle are knit into the
    edging, ending with a WS row. You should have
    the 3 edging sts left. Turn work.

  • Step 3

    Setup for Lace
    Row 1: K3, pm, pick up and knit 78 sts down
    one edge of the triangle to the point (where
    initial tail of yarn will be hanging), pm, pick up 1
    st at the point of the triangle, pm, pick up 78
    sts from the other edge, pm, pick up and knit
    the 3 provisionally cast on edging sts. (163 sts)
    Row 2: K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3
    Row 3: K3, sm, yo, knit to next marker, yo, sm,
    k1 (cs), sm, yo, knit to next marker, yo, sm, k3.
    Row 4: k3, purl to last 3 sts, k3
    Repeat rows 3 and 4 twice more. (175 sts)

  • Step 4

    Spring Snow Chart A
    Work Rows 1 – 18 of Spring Snow Chart A.
    The six edge stitches (3 per side) are not shown
    in the charts or written directions. It is
    understood that they will be worked in garter
    stitch.
    Bracketed 12 st motif repeats itself 7 times on
    each half of the shawl. Spring Snow Chart A
    repeats itself a total of 2 times each row – one
    time for each half of the shawl, separated by a
    center stitch which is worked in stockinette
    (knit on odd numbered rows and purled on even
    numbered rows)

  • Step 6

    Finishing
    Soak in cool water with your favourite wool wash for 20 min. Roll shawl in a towel to remove
    excess
    water and pin out to block. This shawl will allow for fairly aggressive blocking. Allow to air dry.
