White Polar Bear Hat
I made this hat within a couple of hours.

It is the first animal hat I have ever made. It wasn't too difficult to do. The pattern is easy to follow or there are lots of patterns around the internet for free.

I used £1 shop/ $1 shop wool and only used one ball to complete the project so it is mega cheap to do.

I think the nose could be a little bigger, but all in all I'm pleased with the result.

  • How to make an animal hat. Polar Bear Hat - Step 3
    Step 3

    Polar Bear Nose:

Start with black worsted weight wool...
Magic ring, ch 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join, ch 1

Round 2: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around, (12 SC)
    Switch to bulky white yarn...

Round 3: SC in each stitch around (12 SC) don't join, continue to SC in rounds

Round 4: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around (18 SC)

Round 5: SC in each stitch around, slip stitch to join, fasten off leaving a tail to sew onto hat.
You will want to stuff nose with poly-fill stuffing as you sew it onto your hat.

To make nose bigger, add a round (or two) after round 4. So round 5 would be "2 SC in first stitch, SC in next two stitches, repeat around (24 SC)" and if you want to add one more round, Round 6 would be "2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 3, repeat around (30 SC)." be sure to to make a round of SC in each stitch as your final round.

    Bear Ears (make 2):

Magic ring, chain 2 and make 10 DC in ring, join, ch 1

Round 2: SC in each stitch around (this will cause ear to curve in). Fasten off leaving long tail to sew on.

    To make ear bigger:
Magic ring, chain 2 and make 10 DC in ring, join, ch 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next (15 SC), join, ch 1
Round 3: SC in each stitch around (causing ear to curve in). Fasten off leaving long tail to sew onto hat.
