How to Raise a Plant and Make it Love You Back
These air-dry clay pinch pots are fun, easy, and inexpensive to make. Use them to decorate your own home or give them as a gift to a plant-loving friend. Get creative by adding texture and designs, or leave natural for a more modern look. They can be painted or dressed up with different-colored string. These pinch pots are a perfect way to display your favorite Air Plants.
Before you begin
Set up a work surface with parchment paper. Air-dry clay isn’t too messy, but you definitely want to protect your surface from dried on clay and water stains. Wash your hands to prevent any dirt or oils on your hands from getting into the clay. To make a palm-sized pinch pot, use a 2-inch ball of clay. Allow 24 hours for your pot to dry before painting or hanging it.

Step 2
Hold the ball in one hand and place the opposite thumb in the middle of the ball.
-
Step 4
Add tiny splashes of water, when needed, if the clay starts to crack or harden.
-
Step 5
Continue turning and pinching until you achieve your desired pot shape. Don’t make the pot less than 1⁄4 inch thick.
-
Step 7
Set the pot on parchment paper and allow to dry for 24 hours.
-
Step 8
Decide the length you want your pot to hang. Measure out three pieces of string. Each one should be twice the length of your desired hanging height (so if you want the pinch pot to hang 12 inches, cut three pieces of string each 24 inches long).
