I made it for a present for my sister :)
I got the idea from a book, 'Simple Sewn Gifts' by Helen Philipps. All credit for the design goes to her, although I did make minor changes.

PS: the project didn't take long, but I added in an hour or so for the cross-stitch.

  • Step 1

Get the notebook. It mustn't be spiral bound, because you can't put the paper all the way round, on both sides of the book.
Once you've got the notebook, cover it in the spotty paper.

  • Step 2

Next, make a 'sleeve' for the book. Measure 2 and 1/4 round the length of the notebook. Cut a piece of blue patterned paper to match this size. It should be wide enough to fit the cross-stitch motif on.
Glue the two ends of the paper together. The ends should overlap - but it needs to be a bit loose, otherwise the 'sleeve' won't slip on and off easily enough.

  • Step 3

Mount the cross-stitch motif onto some plain white paper, then mount that onto the 'sleeve'. Attach the wooden lady birds, and you're done!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my project! ^^

I love love love this idea! I have a lot of cross-stitch books with patterns. This would look really cute also as a small phonebook for someone to be able to put their favorite BFFs
