  • How to make a patchwork quilt. Not A Real Quilt ;) - Step 1
    Step 1

    First of all: the fabric.
I decided to take 4 plaids made of polar fleece as you can find them in your local decorations or living art shop. I took four of them, because the plaid should be big enough for one person. The colours were my mom´s faforite. At this time she re-decorated her living room in red, blue and a warm, creamy white shade. So her plaid had to fit in there...

Then I made a plan... I thought, therefor it was the first time I did a project like this, having a plan to look at would be good and helpful.
The 4 original plaids were 140cm x 90 cm, so I decided to use sqares 15x15 cm to get the size I wanted to...

    Step 3

3 plaids were ment to be cutted, the last one I wated to sew on the back of the ready plaid. From the red one I wanted to make the hem, so I left enough of it uncutted.

I made a model out of carton paper and copied it on the fabric. You allways have to be aware to leave some space between the sqares, because you´ll need it, when it coms to sewing ;)...

    Step 4

After Step 3 I sorted the squares as I would sew them togehter later regarding to the plan I made earlier. So you have a huge tower of fluffy fleece sqares on your desk, something your cat cannot ignore ;)

    Step 5

Next morning: sort again, after my cat had a wonderfull night sleeping on the squares.
I sewed the sqares together: first 2 (allways neighbors in the same line...

... then I sewed them together as bigger sqares. First mistake: I think today I would sew them together line by line, not sqares of 4 togehter with other squares of 4. That looks much easier to my now.

    Step 7

Anyway, i managed to get my first two lines by sewing these bigger sqares together and finally first results:

    Step 8

It looked NOT like my plan, thanks to the cat ;)
There was one red sqare missing, but I didn´t change it.

    Step 9

Sew the new "patchwork) plaid and the one left over plaid together (left top), leave a little space and turn the plaid outward, then sew the left over space.

    Step 10

Sew the hem all around the plate, wash it at last and ready :)

From the leftover sqares I sewed some matching pillwows.
