I used 4 colors for mine: sparkly magenta, brown, powder blue, and sage. As you can see in the left photo, I also added a string of 8 LEDs. They're solar powered and were pretty simple to attach with a tack stitch.
I've also left mine long, but I may decide to trim it later.

I'm not too sure about the length thing... I just cut a bunch of tulle strips without really thinking about it. But I know the brown tulle is shorter than the rest of the colors. For the lights, just look up solar power string lights. I attached the solar panel to the back of the waistband, facing up and outward. During the day it charges, and at night you get to glow.

This is GREAT! I've been trying to find directions for a longer tutu for Burning Man. Did you just not cut the strips of tulle in half? Also, the lights are amazing. I need to find some! Love it!

I love the color combos! The one on the left, with the magenta, makes me think of lyrical dance! Those are very nice!
