Fill this DIY recipe box with your favourite recipes for a sweet hostess gift!
There is absolutely no new home situation that does not need some sort of personal touch, and since my DIY obsessions are well known, there are a lot of apartments with little gifts made by me out there. This DIY recipe box is definitely a favourite idea, because you can customize it to suit whoever you’re gifting it to, AND you can share some of your beloved recipes as well – which is a really sweet and generous way to help people ease into living on their own.

First, assemble your tools. You'll need to pick out the design you want so you can match your paint and paper. I used a sunny yellow patterned paper for the inside of my recipe box because it reminded me of my grandmother's lemon-coloured kitchen, and a bright blue to match.

Measure the inside dimensions of your box and cut each side out of the patterned paper. Set aside.

Glue on your wooden "feet" with your wood glue. You'll want to give them a good half hour or so to dry before you start painting.

Depending on the colour you choose and how dark your box is, you may want to prime your box. Once the first coat dries, paint the entire outside of the box the colour you've chosen.

Print out our template and cut out. I used my Cricut to cut out the stencil on vinyl to adhere to the box, but you could also use transfer paper to do the same, or just freehand the design if you choose.

I then painted over the stencil and glittered it all over.

Once the paint is dry, use more glue to adhere the paper to the inside of your box for a pretty patterned finish!
