You Will Need

Stitch Markers Tapestry Needle Measuring Tape Scissors
Yarn: 144 yards of a novelty, cotton blend yarn (like S. Charles Collezione's "Crystal")
Needle: US 4 (3.5 mm) 32-40" circular (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Gauge: 4.25 sts and 10 rows = 1 inch in lace pattern
Hook: US 4 (3.5 mm) for fringe
  • Step 1

CO 402 sts loosely. (place a stitch marker every 50 sts when casting on to keep track more easily)

    Knit 2 rows.

  • Step 2

    Row 1: k1, *yo, k1, yo, sk2p*; repeat *...* until last st, k1
    Row 2: purl
    Row 3: k1, *sk2p, yo, k1, yo, k1*; repeat *...* until last st, k1
    Row 4: purl

    Knit 2 rows.

  • Step 3

BO knitwise loosely. Weave in all ends neatly.

    Follow fringe instructions below.

  • Step 4

    Fringe Instructions:

Cut (10) 40” lengths of yarn. You will use 5 pieces for each end of the lacy cord.

Fold one length of yarn in half. Insert the crochet hook into the very left hand stitch of one edge of the cord, from the bottom up. Take the piece of yarn folded in half, hook the yarn at the fold with the crochet hook and pull the two strands completely through the loop. Pull on the free ends evenly to draw them down snugly, but not tightly. Repeat this process for the very right hand edge of the one of the same edge of the cord and then add three sections of fringe in between the two ends. Follow the same instructions for the other end of the cord.

  • Step 5

    NOTE:

You can knit your cord shorter or longer by subtracting or adding a multiple of 4 sts to your cast on. You can also shorten or lengthen the length of your fringe...or not add fringe at all. This particular yarn isn’t at all scratchy and is comfortable to wear around the neck. Use your creativity to personalize this project!
