Make your own felt Blueberries!
A step-by-step version of how to make your own felt blueberries, where I combine ideas from different inspiring sources. Enjoy!

*Note: I have also included lovely tips learnt from inspiring sources (cited wherever possible) in my how-to instructions.

The book I am learning most from currently would be Jeanette Lim's wonderful "Big Little Felt Universe," available from http://www.bookdepository.com/Big-Little-Felt-Universe-Jeanette-Lim/9781600596759 or http://www.amazon.com/Big-Little-Felt-Universe-Squeeze/dp/1600596754/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_1.

  • How to make a fruit plushie. Felt Blueberries - Step 1
    Step 1

    i. First, cut out three larger circles of navy blue felt (of your desired size although this is a rough guide) for the (three) blueberries.

ii. You would also need to cut out 3 smaller circles (of about half the size of the earlier circles in the same (navy blue) coloured felt for the base of the three berries.

iii. Cut out 3 similarly small circles of dark purple for the blueberry bases. (Light purple will do just fine especially if you wish to use dark purple in place of my suggested navy blue felt for the blueberries).

    Step 2

    i. Cut out an 'X' in the centre of the large navy blue circles of your three blueberries.

ii. Glue the purple base (smaller circle) on the underside of the 'X' so as to cover each of the 'X's on each of your three blueberries.

    Step 3

Once, you have cut the 'X's on each of your three blueberries, glue all three smaller circles of dark purple felt on the underside of your blue circles as shown.

*Note: This idea of gluing the purple felt on the underside to highlight the purple 'X' on the blueberries is borrowed from Jeanette Lim's amazing "Big Little Felt Universe" book. :)

    Step 4

    Next, for each blueberry:
    i. Sew small running stitches along the margin of the larger (navy blue) circle.

ii. Put the stuffing into your blueberry.

iii. Pull the thread so that the berry bunches up into a ball (much like how you would do for a strawberry).

Leave the thread unknotted - for now. :)

    Step 5

    i. Sew the smaller navy blue circles (bases) using overcast stitching in a matching (navy blue) thread to the end of the blueberries that has been bunched up from the earlier step.

ii. Tie a double knot when you are done and... Voila! You now have your own felt blueberries! Enjoy! :)

*Note: Sewing on the smaller bases (in a matching colour) to your blueberries (instead of sewing the bunched-up bottom of the berries together) was another tip I borrowed from Jeanette Lim's amazing book, "Big Little Felt Universe." This helps to give the blueberries more stable undersides or bottoms.
