If you're like me and love skulls n creepy things, you'll like making this pin cushion..
I made this on a sewing course I went on, when we were given the task of making a pin cushion I wanted to stay away from the norm of a plain square pin cushion... so branched out and created this... Also had extra time on my hands and made the voodoo doll pin cushion. Sorry for the lack of pix, hopefully you can still understand it all...

  • Step 1

Fold a piece of calico in half and draw your sugar skull in pencil (if your no good at drawing, just print one off the internet and trace it onto the calico).

  • Step 2

Once you're happy with the picture, go over all your lines with black pen, then colour little bits with either coloured pencils or markers.

  • Step 3

Now trim around the skull leaving a 1cm seam allowance around the edge. Make sure you're cutting two layers, so you have a plain skull shape and your drawn skull.

  • Step 4

Place right sides together and sew together around the edges, leave a little gap. Turn it the right way out and put a tiny bit of stuffing in it. Just enough to give the skull a bit of a pop. Hand sew the gap shut.

  • Step 5

Now get your other piece of calico and sew your skull onto half of it. You can sew along some of your drawn lines if you want to give it more emphasis. Up to you.

  • Step 6

Fold the right sides together and sew together, leaving a gap so you can turn it the right way out and stuff it. After stuffing it, hand sew the gap shut.

  • Step 7

Use the sponge brush and black fabric paint to paint the square of the pincushion black leaving the skull in all its glory.
