  • Step 1

Fold a rectangular piece of tissue paper in half widthwise and then again lengthwise. Check the size guide below to determine the correct size of the tissue paper rectangle.

  • Step 2

With scissors or a blade knife and metal ruler, cut vertical strips into the folded paper, leaving 5 centimetres or 2 inches of uncut tissue at the folded end.

Tip: If you’re working with a blade knife and ruler, it’s best to work on a cutting matt to protect the work surface.

  • Step 3

Unfold the sheet and carefully straighten entangled paper strips. Roll up the uncut centre section, then twist firmly and bend into a loop. Fasten the tassel with a small piece of wire. Optionally, decorate the base of the tassel with washi tape to make it look even prettier. We’re using gold glitter washi tape for extra shimmer.

  • Step 4

String up the tassel on a cord or ribbon, and trim their ends if desired. Using this technique you can create tassels in various sizes, you can find measurements for those in the description.
