Vegetables that contain high amounts of vitamin C, carotenoids and zinc are not only nutritional superstars, but they provide the perfect base for a face mask, too. In this one, dates provide zinc and vitamins C and D to help minimize the signs of aging and improve skin elasticity. Any orange vegetable is packed with beta-carotene and vitamin C, so in this case the carrot and pumpkin give a double whammy. Finally, the cinnamon or nutmeg provides gentle exfoliation and helps unblock those toxin-laden pores.

  • Step 1

Soak the dates in hot water for 10 minutes to soften, then discard the soaking water. Put the dates in a mini-processor and blitz to a paste (or use a hand-held blender). Add the remaining ingredients and blitz again to fully combine and create a thick, smooth mask.

  • Step 2

To use, run a facecloth under warm water, then wring it out so that it is just damp. Use it to wet your face all over. Then, use your fingers to scoop out a little of the mask at a time and apply to your skin evenly. Leave in place for 10–15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water and moisturize straightaway.
