Turn a planter into a relaxation station.
I had this wooden planter at the entrance in my living room - I can only assume it was built with the house - and I couldn't figure out what to do with it. It just doesn't get enough light for a lot plants to grow well, and I didn't want to tear it out, because I like the element of separation. As a geology lover and rock collector, a solution appeared: indoor rock garden!
If you have one of these indoor planters (or want to build your own), here's how I created my indoor rock garden and zen corner. It started off as a reading corner, and is now a relaxing work station.

Step 1First, I lined the inside of the planter with foil, to help keep the planter clean.

Step 2Next, I lined it with plastic wrap secured with packing tape, to keep the planter dry inside.

Step 3Before I added rocks, I inserted a small water fountain (for relaxation), and a lucky bamboo plant.

Step 4Around the fountain and vase I added rocks of many sizes - all collected from outside my house, and washed clean.

Step 5Finally, I added some favorite rocks and minerals from my collection over the years, layering them on top of the rocks from my yard.
