Features

I'm a character designer and illustrator from Brazil. I believe we are here to enjoy life, inspire others and feel inspired. I do my work with the intent to spark inspiration and joy in the audience. I am grateful for being able to work with what I love and I hope it shows in my drawings and paintings.

(Also, you can add my Instagram - where I'm more active on: @daniellepioliart)

Have you always been creative and artistic?

Yes. Not that I always knew I was going to work with art, but I was always driven to it. As kids usually do, I drew a lot, but other kids stopped doing it and I continued. Just because I liked it.
I didn't realize this could be a career! I came to realize it after I started college.

How would you describe the style of your work?

I'm not sure I actually have a style. I kind of collect the things I love the most about other artists' work and start adding them into my work. Sometime I tweak things a bit so it feels better for my hand to draw or paint. But I guess style is formed by collecting ingredients from other amazing artists!

What’s in your pencil case and what’s your favorite tool?

Col-erase pencils, Blackwing pencils, ink pens, water brush... That's in my to-go case. But my favorite tools at the moment are paints. I'm in love with different kinds of paints like gouache and oils. I also love markers a lot, and I'm starting to dive into the wonderful world of colored pencils (very different from when I was a kid).
I am exploring a lot and it's amazing how different and wonderful each material feels.
And I still work with digital!

Who is your favorite superhero?

Recently I'll have to say Jessica Jones. I love how messed up she is. I mean, she's full of and issues, but she's strong as hell! Not only physically!

If you could have one super power what would it be?

I would enjoy to be a Sensate (Netflix's Sense8). I know it's not actually a super power, like we are used to see in comics or movies, but having that connection with other people, and being able to be where they are, experience the world the way they do. That would be pretty amazing. Kind of an Astral Projection, but together with other souls. That sounds deep! Ha!

Where do you look for inspiration?

I love Pinterest for inspiration. You can find anything there! And I have created panels with all the things that I love, amazing artists, amazing views, amazing photography, so I can go there whenever I feel stuck!
Also Instagram. I follow a lot of artists and yoga, travel, vegan, lifestyle accounts that keep me in a good energy to work. Everything that is not making me feel good, I leave out.

Who are your favorite artists or comic book authors?

That is such a hard question! I have more favorite artists than I can remember.
I'll try to list some of them. They are very diversified.
Loish, Charmaine Olivia, Alex Garant, Denae Sketch, Taryn Knight, Claire Keane, Glen Keane, Bouguereau, Gerda Wegener, Andrea Serio, Leyendecker, .... The list goes on and on!
