Knit a face washer, mesh scarf and textured summer cushion in #ShopShowcase with Sunspun Yarns

How did you get started?

Sunspun has been selling beautiful yarns from this shop for more than thirty years, and is one of Melbourne’s oldest yarn shops. Amy is now its latest (and only the fourth) owner. We love knitting, crocheting, weaving and working with yarn, and for the crafts’ rich history, cultural diversity and the communities they foster.

Now fully renovated and carrying new lines, we continue the tradition of supplying crafters with a peerless selection of yarns, patterns, notions and accessories to inspire and help you decide what to make.

Where are you located?

Sunspun is a little jewel box of a yarn store in the Melbourne suburb of Canterbury, just around the corner from the charming little shopping village on Maling Road, about 10 km from Melbourne’s CBD in Australia.

Which products do you specialise in?

We stock yarns by Cleckheaton, Rowan, Shibui, Debbie Bliss, Milla Mia, Shilasdair, Noro, Jo Sharp and others, and are exclusive stockists of Isager and Shilasdair yarns in Australia.

We carry books and patterns by all the major manufacturers, and by independent designers such as Brooklyn Tweed, Olgajazzy, Kirsten Johnstone and more, as well as knitting and crochet tools and equipment from Fringe Association, Brittany, Clover, Addi and Knitpro.

Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?

We love all our products! However, we do have a special fondness for yarns that, in Australia, are a little different - Isager, Shibui and Shilasdair.

What's on the stereo?

Modern, smooth, time to chill music that you can talk to customers over and makes you feel relaxed.

Where else should we visit in your area?

Maling Road is a very well known shopping street in Melbourne. There are many cafes, artisan craft stores and beautiful homewares and clothing retailers. It is has a beautiful ambience.

Canterbury Gardens are lovely in all seasons and just across the road from the shop. Great for a cuppa and a walk.

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?

We run classes in knitting, crochet and weaving throughout the year, and are available for private consultations by appointment.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We love to show and tell on instagram (as @sunspunyarns) and have a ravelry group - sunspun fibre folk - where we conduct yarnalongs and generally have a good ole chit chat with fibre folk.

We love helping our customers and pride ourselves on good old fashioned service - the kind that listens and takes it time with you!
