Learn how-to crochet a Centennial Scarf in #ShopShowcase with Yarn & Coffee in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

How did you get started?

I've been a knitter and crocheter since I was about 10 years old. I was laid off of a job I'd been at for six years, and decided to pursue a long-held dream.

Where are you located?

Our shop is a little bit hidden--we're behind a local eatery on the main drag in Santa Fe. We're not really visible from the street, but the space is so great, I had to take the chance.

Which products do you specialise in?

We sell yarns for knitting and crocheting. Some weavers also find yarn here, and we have a small selection of needlepoint yarns. All our yarns are natural fibers (we do allow a little nylon, but I have a cut-off percentage point). I have nothing against synthetics, but I'd be bursting at the seams if I didn't draw some lines somewhere! And, of course, we have coffee, tea, and chocolate (hence the name).

Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?

Oh my gosh! I love all the products that I sell! It's hard to pick a favorite. And if I did, it would probably change daily. I do have a selection of local hand-dyed yarns that are unique. Sometimes they're my favorites...

What's on the stereo?

Today, of course, it's Bowie. But we have a range of playlists--from R&B to World Music, from classic jazz to show tunes, hip-hop to alt rock...sometimes The Beatles...

Where else should we visit in your area?

There are a ton of delicious retaurants. Our downtown area (around The Plaza) has some interesting sights and stores. One of my favorite museums in town is the International Folk Art Museum.

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?

We have classes most Saturdays, from basic skills classes to project classes to special skills classes. We often have trunk shows of local dyers and designers. We have three weekly social-knitting and crocheting groups that meet every week.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

Our coffee is excellent. It's roasted locally. You can drop in and knit any time we're open.
