Inspired by Britta J's Puzzle Necklace but with Differences
I was inspired to make these little puzzle piece necklaces as Christmas gifts for my friends by Britta J's tutorial found on this site but I made a couple of changes. The most significant being making pendant hangers from beading wire rather than sewing the necklace chain directly to the back of the pendant. This change means that the pendants can be hung on any number of different chains. I presented them hung on pieces of thin black ribbon.

As usual the 'You Will Need' box is refusing to cooperate with me but you will need a puzzle with some images in it that you think will make good pendants. I bought both of the ones I used at a charity shop very cheaply. Scraps of black felt, craft glue and beading wire. I used 20 gauge wire in silver and 24 gauge in the gold. I think the 20 looked better as with the 24 I had to create two or more loops on the pendant hangers to make them look substantial.

    Step 1

If you want to use a number of pieces to make your pendant like the gold pendants above, first you will need to complete your puzzle. This is what takes the most time and is not included in the total project time. If you just want to use a single piece like the pink letter necklace above you can skip this and the next step and just pick out the prettiest piece to use.

    Step 2

Separate the pieces that you want to use for your necklace from the main body of your puzzle and paint the back with glue. I used PVA. Make sure you paint over all the gaps between the pieces. This will keep the pieces together.

Next you are going to make your pendant hanger. Clip off a piece of beading wire. Better to make it a bit longer than you think you are going to need. You can always cut the ends down later. Smooth out any bends in the wire. Wrap the wire around a paint brush to form a loop. I'm using 24 gauge wire here so I have wrapped it around three times to form three loops. Once you have made your loops twist the ends of the wire together to secure them and remove from the paint brush.

Decide where you want to place your pendant hanger on your necklace and cut or bend the ends of the wire so that they don't stick out beyond the edge of your puzzle pieces. Make sure that the loop is at right angles to the pieces. This will make sure that your pendant hangs correctly without twisting around.

    Step 5

Cut a piece of black felt to fit over the back of your puzzle pieces. Apply lots of glue to one side of your felt piece and stick to the back of your puzzle pieces with the ends of your pendant hanger underneath.

    Wait for glue to dry.

Thread on to a chain or whatever you have around. I used thin black ribbon.

    Ta Da! You're finished!
