To bring a little of yourself to a new (or old) room
I had this amazing bolt of fabric that my mom bought me a while ago and never had time to do anything with and I figured that I'd be leaving soon and wanted new stuff for my dorm room and a pillow case seemed perfect to start off with.

  • How to make a pillow. Girly Skull Pillowcase - Step 1
    Step 1

Gather all your materials together in one place. A calculator and pen were useful but if you're good with numbers and memorising then have at it without

    Step 2

Okay so first starting with the trim, I used a solid colour, but I've seen them with patterns too. I used another pillow case to measure off of, The trim should be double the length of that case when it is layed flat. And the width should be double as well becasue it will be folded over, don't forget seam allowences!

Once you have the trim cut, set it aside and pick up your other fabric. Mine was already folded double, if yours is not, it's easier to use if it is so fold it over in half and cut the width to be the same as the length of the trim and, the length of the body should be a bit longer than the length of a pillow, again include seam allowences. You should end this step with one piece of trim and one big piece of body fabric.

    Step 4

Unfold the body fabric and lie it flat, inside facing up. Fold the trim in half, bad side in, and pin the edge to the body so that if you hold it up by the edge that you pinned the trim too, the trim and the good side of the body fabric are on top of each other. (sorry if that wasn't clear, it's really easy but kinda hard to explain)

    Step 5

Sew the trim to the body, only along the one side. Take the whole thing and fold it in half the other way so that the good sides of the body fabric are on the inside. Pin along the bottom edge and the one side that is not folded over.

    Step 6

Sew along the bottom and the one side and, all the way to the top, including the trim. Flip it back right side out, stick a pillow in and sleep on your sewing table after all that hard work :P
