Review:

The game of Cluedo may be the perfect way to kill time over the holidays but new film, Knives Out by Rian Johnson is just as wholesome and enjoyable, with an all star cast of suspects and opulent LA mansion to explore.

A life dedicated to crime writing ends with its own mystery when author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead of an apparent suicide after his 80th birthday party. Having amounted a vast fortune from his books, suspicion is quickly cast on his entitled, competitive and money-grabbing children.

The eccentric family are portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson and Michael Shannon as the Thrombey children. Toni Collette as a Gwyneth Paltrow-esque lifestyle guru daughter-in-law with grandchildren, pot-smoking feminist Meg (Katherine Langford), racist internet troll Jacob (Jaeden Martell) and prime suspect, the mysterious black sheep, Hugh "Ransom" Drysdale (Chris Evans).

Each has a motive after being cut off from their father’s wealth and the job of finding the killer falls on renowned private detective Benoit Blanc. Played by Daniel Craig with steely blue eyes and a Southern accent, he’s unsure who hired him for the job after a mysterious envelope of cash with a newspaper clipping about the case lands on his doorstep.

The most intriguing suspect has to be Harlan's dedicated and kind-hearted nurse, Marta (portrayed by new Bond Girl, Ana de Armas) who can’t lie without being physically sick. Like a doe-eyed deer in the headlights, she finds herself in the middle of a family feud, all while trying to stay under the radar to protect her undocumented mother.

Littered with clues and all the trimmings of a classic murder mystery, you’ll be trying to guess whodunnit and second guessing yourself over and over again. Thrilling, funny and entertaining - this film is the perfect family film for the holidays!
