Cook a sweet potato salad and lemon bars in #ABiteToEat with Well-Bred Bakery and Cafe in Weaverville, North Carolina

How did you get started?

The owner Judy Glicken sold her wholesale baking business and came down to North Carolina to retire, but saw opportunity in the small town of Weaverville for a little local bakery. The rest is history, and now we have a location in Biltmore Village as well.

I have been at the bakery since 2003, starting as the assistant pastry chef with every title incarnation- from Pastry Chef to Kitchen Manager to Executive Chef and now General Manager. - Laura Bogard Taylor

Where are you located?

We have 2 locations:

26 N Main St. Weaverville, NC 28806 (Since 2002)
6 Boston Way Asheville, NC 28803 (Since 2014)

What are your specialities?

We have exceptionally crafted sweet and savory edibles.

On the sweet side we are most known for our "Mountain Eclair" (It's gigantic!) and we have fabulous cakes, pies, bars, cookies, etc.

For savory we have delicious quiche and sandwiches, but are most known for our fresh vegetable side salads. Our kale salad with cranberries, almonds, parmesan, and lemon is by far our best seller.

What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?

It's a toss up, probably between the tiramisu and the rugelach cookie. Then again, I am nuts for the kale salad and eat it everyday......

What's on the stereo?

An ecclectic and mellow mix

Where else should we visit in your area?

The Biltmore Estate and The Blue Ridge Parkway

Do you host any special events?

No, but we have lots of festivals in Weaverville, specifically Art in Autumn.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We have been voted Best Bakery In Asheville for 2 years in a row!
