Knit a Color Dipped Hat and crochet a Granny Square Blanket in #Shop Showcase with Purl Soho in New York

How did you get started?

Purl Soho began in 2003 as a tiny shop in New York City’s Soho neighborhood. We opened as a place to share our love for natural fibers with people who might feel the same way. At the time, there weren’t that many shops that focused on these kinds of yarns, and we believed there had to be more. We have a slightly bigger shop now on Broome Street (in the same neighborhood), and we’ve expanded to sell supplies for all sorts of fiber arts, but our passion remains the same: to provide beautiful materials and inspiration for creative people!

Where are you located?

We are located in the heart of Manhattan’s Soho neighborhood at 459 Broome Street. We are also located online at www.purlsoho.com.

Which products do you specialise in?

We specialize in natural fiber yarns, linen and cotton fabrics, exceptional tools and notions, and inspiring books and patterns. We supply crafters from every corner of the fiber arts world: embroiderers, needlepointers, weavers, crocheters, knitters, and more!

Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?

We are most passionate right now about our growing collection of Purl Soho yarns. We love to create our own yarns and to design patterns around them. It is the total fulfillment of what we have always cared about: beautiful yarn and classic design. Our latest yarn, Shepherdess Alpaca, has really captured our imaginations. It’s wild and free and absolutely stunning!

What's on the stereo?

We listen to a whole range of music, from Sam Cooke to Patty Smith to Solange.

Where else should we visit in your area?

That’s an overwhelming question! How about five places? The Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, and the High Line.

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?

Yes! We have lots of fun and interesting classes and workshops that we hold in our store and also in our neighboring studio. We also host book signings and trunk shows, and we have a very exciting weekend event coming up called Knitting in the City, co-hosted with Company’s Julie Hoover and Catherine Lowe. It will be an incredible weekend of knitting and chatting and eating, all in our favorite city: New York!

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We have tons of free patterns online that your readers should check out, and they should come visit us in New York, too, if they’re in the neighborhood. We’d love to meet them!
