Based in a former church on George Street in Glasgow, it's hard to miss the Malmaison with its striking art-deco entrance.

Inside, the hotel is dark and cosy with scented candles and little nooks to curl up in. I loved the artwork on the wrought iron staircase leading up to the rooms.

The rooms are equally as cosy with velvet lined headboards and fluffy cushions gracing the bed and chairs.

I loved the Glasgow street map wallpaper and little details, like the sweets and apples left for us and scrummy toiletries with names like "the best shampoo you will ever steal".

We didn't even have to leave the hotel for dinner, as Martin Wishart has his own restaurant, The Honours in the Malmaison's basement.

Curiosity got the better of us and we could resist ordering some gin fizz oysters. The citrusy gin worked really well with the saltiness of the oysters and it was a perfectly refreshing kick to the start for the meal.

I ordered risotto which was spiced with saffron and Tom had sea bass in a delicious creamy broth.

For dessert, I tucked into creme brulee while Tom had a chocolate pudding.

We ended our evening with cocktails in hotel bar, decorated in a laid-back hipster style with neon lights and trendy art.

Visit:

Penny Black

Penny Black isn't your usual post office - it's super trendy with a hip cafe, gift shop and amazing selection stationery.

We could have spent hours looking through all the greetings cards, which had a huge selection of funny cat themed cards. I could have bought a whole year's worth in just the one shop.

It's so nice to see that snail mail is alive and well at this post office and it's sure to become my go-to stop when I need to top up on stationery.
