Get in shape to your favorite music, the indie rocker way!
By Snippets
Yoga For Indie Rockers and Pilates For Indie Rockers are a new series of fitness DVDs, aimed at the indie rock market. They cover all the the basics of yoga and pilates, just like any other good fitness video, but the awesome thing is you can choose which music you work out to.
The audio / language tracks have been cleverly adjusted so that you can work out to one of three preloaded soundtracks or you can choose to work out to your own music. The DVD is designed to cater for all levels of yoga or pilate expertise by having four different indie rockers, of varying skill, following the workout at the same time - Chaos (Instructer), Karri (Beginner) Kris (Intermediate) and Paige (Expert). Simply watch the indie rocker you can keep up with the most.
How To Enter:
We've got copies of both to give away. So, to be in with a chance of winning, tell us what your perfect work out track would be!
Answers below and remember to state which DVD (yoga or pilates) you want.

And i have no idea what my perfect work out track would be, but something that wants me to get moving. But not like scary sounding. I want to be able to dance to it as much as work out to it!

WOW! These are terrific! It's about time someone got creative and made interesting exercise vids. Hmmm, picking one perfect indie exercise track is tough. I'd probably start off with Vicious Vicious -- Too Much Time on My Hands for a warm up...then maybe head into some Weezer...cause you can't go wrong with Weezer. Perhaps pick up the pace a bit with some Party by Treepeople and then maybe wind down with Thou by the Mountain Goats. Wheeee!

The Flaming Lips' "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, Part 1" is my knee-jerk reaction. It's all about getting mentally and physically prepared to kick some robot butt and save the human race, which is enough to get my endorphins rushing (because of the workout and because of the ego-stroking). Plus, the beat of the song makes it easy to do to high-impact or low-impact routines! In fact, I feel like doing a little Yoshimi Yoga right now!
I would LOVE to win the Yoga for Indie Rockers DVD!

Very cool- I love work out vids, but the music is either not to my liking or just plain cheesy, and cheesy is certainly something you need to avoid when getting into shape! My perfect workout track would go a little something like this:
Rump Shaker - Wreckx-N-Effect
Date With The Night - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Volcano Girls - Veruca Salt
More Human Than Human - Rob Zombie
Hypermusic - Muse
2 Hookers and an 8 Ball - Mindless Self Indulgence
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - Daft Punk
Deceptacon - Le Tigre
Definitely all songs that get me moving ^_^, and for sure all songs that I could rock out to while doing pilates dvd!

Oh, this is great! I work out to 'Just a Little In & Out' by RuPaul, except the remix. The song is so, get up and go! And it starts off kinda slow so you can build yourself up to go to full mode on your workout. Try it!
Pilates please. :]

How suiting, I just found this after finishing my pilates workout! Go figure. :)
I actually listen to metal when I work out!
Some of my favorite tracks are:
Killswitch Engage - The Rose of Sharyn
Flyleaf - I'm So Sick
Passenger - Carnival Diaries
In Flames - Pinball Map
Trivium - Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr
Lacuna Coil - Tight Rope
Just love the strong and complicated melodies and driving beats. It gives me a lot to focus on other than my lack of flexibility!
I'd love to see this pilates video, I'm excited!

Mar 24, 2008 6:54am
my perfect workout track would be something that starts off slow and works to a fever pitch and then slows back down going through the warm up to work out and then cool down.
Alex T.
Mar 25, 2008 7:16pm
Honestly, I feel like nothing goes with a good work out as well as a bunch of crappy, frou-frou 80's music. I want Cory Hart, Deadeye Dick, some old Madonna...
Maybe some electronic stuff later.
I've been wanting to learn both but I guess I lean towards Pilates.
Alyssa M.
Mar 25, 2008 11:09pm
the explosion- hollywood sign - it's high energy and got a strong beat
GlassJaw - lovebites and razorblades- it starts off crazy and then moves into a really cool melodic deal

I think Super Massive Black Hole by Muse would be really good as a work out track because it is so fast paced and always gives me a huge adrenaline rush which would give me energy to excercise with! I love the idea of the Pilates one...it's such a good idea because on yoga or pilates dvds/videos they usually have really tacky repetitive music in the background which is very irritating and therefore really distracting, and just generally puts me off.

I think maybe something by cascada, fergie, or Nelly Fertado(sp) I'd love either one!

I My Me Mine - Polysics
Smile Ichiban Ii Onna - An Cafe

Oooh a challenge, to narrow down the list of tracks which would be perfect to work out to. On this day, at this time I would have to say "I know" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, for the following reasons:
It starts off quite slow, so it gives you chance to warm up and get into the song and the movement before...
...boom! it steps up a gear and you're ready to enter the full on whirling dirvish stage of head throwing, limb flailing, hip shaking! Also if you've ever seen them live you can use their crazy dancing and whirling to inspire you to ever greater and more active moves.
Just after the first chorus it slows and undulates, which means depending on how unfit you're feeling you can either just walk along or really work yourself up into a lather.
It has a great part at the end where Karen O kinda laughs and to be honest, we all need to laugh at ourselves once we've been working out cause although you feel great you look like you've been dragged through a wet hedge backwards. I do anyway.
This song just grips you and so working out to it would feel like no work out at all.
And finally I'd choose this song cause it reminds me of my boyfriend and the myriad of ways he can help to keep me in shape ;) not all exercise is a chore!
(if you enjoyed reading my little bit then I'd love the yoga DVD if I win).

Ooh a challenge to pick from the myriad of tunes that get me moving; however on this day at this time I would have to say "I know" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for the following reasons:
It starts off slow so you can begin at your own pace and warm up before...
...boom! The other instruments kick in and the beat has you gripped. This is when you enter full on head throwing, hip swinging, whirling dirvish mode and if you've ever seen them live then you can use the memory of their crazy whirling to spur you on to ever greater moves.
This song really undulates and changes between frantic parts and slower, gradual climbs so is perfect for getting your heart rate up whilst giving you time to cool off. No one wants a cardiac arrest now do they!
At the end of this song Karen O sort of laughs and to be honest we all need to be able to laugh at ourselves after working out. I know I look like I've been dragged through a wet headge backwards so a laugh does wonders and makes sure you feel mentally fit too :)
And finally I'd pick this song as it reminds me of my partner and the many ways he can help to keep me fit as well. After all, not all exercise has to be a chore!
(if you liked reading my snippet, I'd love the yoga DVD if I win).

Ohhhhh! Real indie gorgeous women! Now there's a workout I can get in to!
Hmmm, my perfect workout track? "Today For You, Tomorrow For Me" from Rent. Goodness knows, just the image of what Angel does on stage makes me GREEN with envy and wanting to work out hard enough to do the same!!!
I want to do back-flips in 6" vinyl heels! Besides, every Indie girl needs a bit of Bohemian rock in her life!
