You Will Need

  • Step 1

    Cutting
Measurements include 1/4" seam allowances. Border strips are exact length needed. You may want to make them longer to allow for piecing variations.
    1. Select the two strips of matching dark red "melted chocolate" fabric from the Roll-Up to use for the thin, inner border. Cut in half lengthwise to make 4 (1-1/4”) strips. Piece into 2 (1-1/4” x 68”) units.
    2. Cut one square of the same dark red "melted chocolate" fabric from the Ten Squares into 2 (8-1/2" x 2-1/2") rectangles.
    3. Optional: Set one more reddish Roll-Up strip (any pattern), one of the ivory strips, and 2 “chocolate colored” Ten Squares to make a Swiss Chocolate pincushion from my web- site.
    4. Go through Ten Squares and set aside the
2 ivory squares, the 2 light blue feather squares, and the 2 light tan feather squares to use for appliqué flower petals. Set aside two red squares (any patterns) to use for ap- pliquéed flower centers.
    5. Cut 19 remaining Ten Squares into 4 (5” square) pieces. Set 10 assorted (5”) squares aside to use for the middle row of the quilt.
    6. Cut each remaining Roll-Up into 2 (5” x 2-1/2”) rectangles, 2 (7” x 2-1/2”) rectangles, and 1 (8-1/2” x 2-1/2") rectangle.
    7. From ivory fabric (Melted Swirls - AAM- 10930-15), cut
    • 2 (8-1/2”) strips. From strips cut 36 (1-1/2” x 8-1/2”) rectangles and 4 (2-1/4" x 8-1/2") rectangles.
    • 2 (2") strips. From strips, cut 11 (2” x 5") rectangles.
    • 1 (13-1/2”) strip. From strip, cut 12 (2-1/2” x 13-1/2”) rectangles
    • 16 (2-1/2”) strips. From strips, piece 8 (2-1/2” x 58-1/2”) units.
    • 5 (5-1/4”) strips. From strips, piece 2 (5-1/4” x 89”) units.
    7. Cut top and bottom border fabric into 4 (5-1/4”) strips. From strips, sew 2 (5-1/4” x 68”) units.

  • Step 2

    Quilt Top Assembly
    1. Sew a contrasting (5” x 2-1/2”) rectangle onto one side of 64 of your (4-1/2”) squares. Sew a matching (7” x 2-1/2”) rectangle onto an- other side of these units.
    2. Sew four of these pieced units together until you have 16 blocks. Appliqué flower pet- als and center onto the blocks. Join 4 of these blocks with 3 (2-1/2” x 13-1/2”) ivory rectangles to create a row, as shown in Quilt Assembly diagram on the following page. Repeat to complete three more rows.
    3. Alternate 19 (2-1/2" x 8-1/2") pieces from the Roll-Ups with the 18 ivory (1-1/2" x 8-1/2") pieces to form the top rectangle row. Sew a ivory (2-1/4" x 8-1/2") rectangle onto both ends. Trim pieced strips to 58-1/2". Repeat to make the bottom rectangle row.
    4. Alternate 10 (5") squares leftover from your ten square package with the 9 ivory (2" x 5") rectangles. Trim 1/4" off the square on each end to make a 58-1/2" row.
    5. Sew rows together according to Quilt Assem- bly Diagram.
    6. Sew the 2 ivory (5-1/4" x 89") outer border rectangles onto the sides of the quilt top.
    8. Sew thin inner borders and wide outer bor- ders to bottom and top.

  • Step 3

    Finishing
    1. Divide backing fabric into two lengths. Cut
1 piece lengthwise to make 2 narrow pan- els. Join 1 narrow panel to each side of wide panel. Press.
    2. Layer backing, batting, and quilt top. Quilt as desired.
    3. Join the (2-1/4") binding strips into 1 continu- ous piece for binding. Press, folding in half lengthwise. Sew binding to quilt.
