It's the only reason I'm relieved not to have a job at the moment! And in the craft shop in Bristol we don't really get the rush just before Christmas because people tend to buy stuff in like August to start making presents/cards

hi... i'm really not looking forward to christmas this year. now i'm 15, i just feel like its only for little kids and there isnt anything to look forward to on the day. why do people have to get so worked up about just one day of the year?? there are 364 other days where we should all be equally happy for- its not like anyone even cares about the real reason behind it any more... like you guys i reckon its just another excuse for shops to make money, and it's all got so tacky- i went into a card shop today and they were playing christmas music already!! it's only november, and I HATE CHRISTMAS SONGS!! it just seems to me that all christmas songs are about being in love and stuff like that, and i really cant identify with that. they just make me feel completely left out!! plus, whats with this stuff about spending time with family on xmas day?? ok it would be nice for loads of people, like those who havent seen their family for ages or people who actually get along, but in my house everyone sees each other like, loads anyway, so we just end up being cooped up in the house for hours on end together and getting on each others nerves!! it seems to me like that everyone in england is sort of forced to go along with christmas anyway, because the entire country grinds to a halt for one day when nothings open, theres nothing to do, and as for the time around it when people are madly panic-buying gifts, people doing normal grocery shopping dont stand a chance!!

now ive said all this, i think i'm looking forward to christmas even less this year than before i wrote this post!! what can i do instead to either get into the festive spirit, or busy myself so i dont think about how much i hate christmas?!?!?! :S

I can see your point ,but I love Christmas. Even though something goes wrong every year. I love the way the shops look ,how cold it is ,wrapping presents ,and looking for a tree.

I love Christmas but the only thing I don't like is that my mum gets really busy around that time so she is all stressed and we usually end up having fights, last year we had such a bad falling out that it was the first Christmas ever I didn't spend it at her house(stayed at my dad's who is a christmas scrooge but I convinced him to put up a tree Tongue).

why do people get so worked up over holidays?

It does my head in when magazines etc refer to it as "the big day", erm it's only christmas, we get one every year. It's not like a wedding day or something which actually is a big day.

We have a crappy fake plastic tree, so we can't even hunt for nice trees. We were thinking about changing to real ones but then we got a cat, and the pines are bad for them, so we're stuck with the one that's older than me

I like christmas, but thats it... just like. lol I do enjoy finding perfect things for my family, but they are never big expensive items. And I live half way across an ocean from my friends and family so buying each and everyone of them a gift and then mailing them, seems like a waste of time and money. So usually my imediate family draws names so we only have to buy one thing. But I totally agree with everyone who said they hate hate hate hate HATE hate the commercialization (sp?) of the season.
I havent decided what "religion" I am yet, I feel drawn to more natural outlook with my own spirituality. Plus there are so many overlapping holidays with in the season, yule, hanukka, kuannza (sp?), AND christmas. I really wish it could be more about family and humanity coming together for peace and love, than gimme gimme, buyme buyme....
