How did you get started?

I moved in to The Strand Building (where the café is located) around 2 years ago, after trying to get a flat there for over 2 years - when I first visited the building with a friend and fell in love with the art deco architecture and ‘Miami’ style courtyard full of palm trees and pastels! When I moved in I was working in fashion but growing very tired and over stressed with it all and I knew I wanted to make a big change to my life and career. I worked in a restaurant for 6 years when I was at school and always remembered it as the best job I’d ever had, so it’s something I always thought I would like to go back to at some stage, but I’m not sure I ever really thought I would actually go through with it, until it seemed to land in my lap ...
After only a few months of living here I noticed a sign in the window of the Café downstairs saying that they were closed until further notice. I immediately called up the charity next door to ask them if they knew what was happening to the premises and they told me they were looking for someone to take over the business. I viewed the space later that day and submitted my proposal to the charity and council the following week! It all happened so quickly, without much planning at all. I still don’t really know how it happened and all came together, but I like it when things happen and work out like that.

What are your specialities?

Fish Finger Tacos, Cinnamon Roll Pancakes, The Waffle Burger (filled with avocado, chorizo, fried egg & Cholula hot sauce) and our most popular dish - Avocado on Toast with Grilled Halloumi and Homemade Sweet Chilli Jam

What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?

Fish Finger Tacos or the Fancy Bacon Sandwich

Where else should we visit in your area?

Yardsale Pizza & My Neighbours the Dumplings (make sure you order the aubergine salad & turnip cake, soooo good!)

Do you host any special events?

Yes! We've hosted a few press days, birthday parties and most recently a hen party. I love the space to be used outside of our opening hours, it seems such a waste for it to just sit empty otherwise.
