    Step 1

Start by making the card base for your top hat. I traced around a large dinner plate onto the card as it was the perfect size for my hat.

Carefully cut out this circle with a cutting knife. We'll use both of these circles, so try to keep them both neat as you cut.

    Step 5

Cut a rectangle wide enough to fit around the circumference of the middle circle and about 7" tall. Score a line 1/2" from the top and 1/2" from the bottom.

I didn't have a piece of card wide enough, so I used two.

Cut little slits all the way along the top and bottom of the hat, stopping at the scored lines.

Place the felt handle in between the join where the middle of the hat meets and glue in place. Repeat this process to make a spout and cut a thin slash in the front of the hat to fit the spout in place.

Cover the outside of the teapot with felt, glueing in place with PVA glue.

Cut a circle of felt slightly wider than the plate you made earlier and use the small card circle as a template to cut a hole out of the middle. Cut a slit at one edge of the circle and slip onto the bottom of your hat. Glue in place. Repeat for the underside of the hat.
