From a boring tee to a funky new top
If like me your new at this kinda thing its probably best to do a practise top first! That way if you do it and don't like the look of it you still have the top you like!
I got the main idea for this from my sister and adapted it a tiny bit

  • How to make a tank top. T Shirt Recon - Step 1
    Step 1

Grab a tee that you love...but want to do something new with

    Step 2

Remove the neck (cutting close the the seams so as not to remove too much). Then cut from the inside edge of the sleeves down the side in a straight line (stop before you hit the bottom of the shirt...on my top I stopped 14cm from the bottom...its up to you if you want a smaller hole or larger...remember start with a smaller hole and expand it if you want...and keep the sides even!)

    Step 3

Put the top on to check if you like it. You can cut the neck more if you want to, or cut the side down further.
Your top should now look like a vest top with large arm holes.
You can leave it like this, and wear with a top underneath or you can tighten the sides up with some ribbon

    Step 4

To add the ribbon make small holes each side of the arm gap...lining them up on each side of the shirt! You can have as many or as few as you want.
Then lace with ribbon, I started lacing from the top so that the bows would be at the bottom (less irritating in my eyes). Its easier to lace the shirt before you put it on, the lowers holes can be done while worn but the top is very fiddly!

I still wear the top with another underneath, just to stop the world seeing my underwear. Would also make quite a cool beach top to be worn over a bikini.
