roma grow up this is the real world and no real woman wheather shes size 2 or 22 wants to set and smile we all want to be sexy
for ourselves and others to enjoy because we take pride in our bodys and tattoos and what ever else we decide to do to our bodies and how we decide to expose it no one forces you to look at it if you want to set and smile pretty at your man good for you but im gonna be full out sexy for my man
and if i didnt have a man id just be sexy for myself no man wants to be stuck with a woman who just smiles pretty i dont now who you are trying to fool it must be your self Tongue

Ok- I get what everyone's saying and I'll reply properly in the morning. Right now I'm upset by all these accusations that have been flung at me (Tara- I wasn't getting pissy at you, sorry if that's how it came across, I just wanted to understand why people went in for it because I've never met someone who wanted to go for suicide girls before) and I haven't slept very well lately. I'll have a clearer head in the morning.

they are classier than the equivilent of today, and the girls that use that style are much classier than your average stripper or whatever, it's more of an art, but at the time they were originally around they were seen just as outrageous as the modern equivilent...I don't know how I feel, is it exploiting if they choose to make money that way? It's an odd thing but it will never go away.

Cool cool. Roma, didn't mean to get pissy right back at you. Just felt like I was being insulted. Kinda hard not to get a little ranty, in a rant. LOL

lets just chaulk it all up to a good rant.

ranting is good. And Tara, good luck! I think the Suicide Girls are hot! and corrie great pics!

what Roma said was completely justified and she said it in the nicest way possible and Corrie that whole sexist comment doesn't really make sense or apply to this situation and don't 'speak' for the rest of us because I do not agree with what you say, just give your own opinion.

Ok so after getting a little bit upset about being called sexist I'd just like to say that I'm totally not. As I said earlier in the thread, if there was an equal amount of men doing that sort of thing as women, then I'd be fine with it, but because the male side of things is so completely unrepresented in comparison the female, as a result a lot of women are being treated as objects- even if these women enter into a sexual art completely willingly, it has effects on the rest of the population. A good example of this is men honking their car horns at women, simply because they see them walking down the street in a short skirt. Also there's sexual harassment like pinching bottoms, or at worse- rape. Now, I know it's not entirely the fault of the Pin Up Girls, so I guess I'm talking about the sexual industry as a whole here- but it glamourising it in the way pin up girls do, certainly doesn't help.

Tara it's great that you can find tats sexy, I agree, they're hot. But I just think maybe there are other ways of being sexy with your tats- maybe you could become a tattoo artist. That'd command power and respect, and in turn, sexiness. It's nice that you want to do something for your husband too- but I guess I don't get the idea of enjoying the thought of other men perving over your wife? I mean obviosuly it'd be dead good, he'd be all "yeah that sexy one's my wife" but I'd also get pretty jealous. I guess I'm just greedy and want my guy all to myself.

The other day my friend, a 19 year old virgin, said to me that her virginity makes her feel worthless, in this world that revolves around sex. It's like she doesn't count because she hasn't entered into that world yet, simply because she's not met the right guy. Tara and corrie, you two are lucky enough to have husbands that love you- and perhaps you've forgotten what it's like to be a single, teenage girl with lots and lots of pressure on you to pair up and have sex, I know I was keen to forget it as soon as that door closed.

Also Corrie it's great that you want to be sexy 100% of the time for your man, and I'm sure you succeed. Personally I like to save it for little surprise times. I certainly don't 'sit pretty' as you suggest. You seem to have me down, quite inexplicably, as some 1940s housewife that just smiled and nods at whatever their man says- I'd have thought that from this thread alone you could have told that I'm not the type of girl that takes crap from anyone. Thankfully I don't get any rubbish from my boyo, but if I was to he'd know that I'd be the first one to tell him. It's great that you personally want to be sexy for your man- but it's when sex is everywhere that it gets to be a problem.

I fully realise that peolpe want to be sexy- my initial point was that people sometimes go about it a bit questionably- they make themselves sexy by hiding who they are through make-up and little frilly knickers, waxing, tanning etc. Personally when I'm sexy I do it out of the confidence I have in myself. I don't touch make-up, I have got a couple of special knickers for special occasions but mostly it's just me on my own doing my own thing.

And you say there are more things worth ranting about like the objectificiation of children- yeah, that's awful, but everybody knows that's awful. The objectification of women still matters but it's not something we all think about. I didn't think about it much until a few months ago, and since becoming a feminist (I'd always had feminist views, but since really getting my teeth stuck into the movement) i've been much happier in myself and have had more confidence in my gender.

I agree it appears classier, but at the end of the day that photograph at the top of that snippets article is just soft porn, no way around it. We all need titillating photographs, but I don't get why the crafting world needs it and why on earth it was in that snippets article. The other photos of her were lovely, but that was a bit too much for tea-time reading.

I dunno, I see what you mean and I definately don't think every pin-up girl is wonderful or anything, but I think Bettie Page and Dita Von Teese are different. Firstly, Bettie did it because of her love of being on camera, and yeah it was completely perverted by the people who used her, but she was happy. And she didn't have it all that easy - she had to pad her bra because she was only a C cup. I have a lot of respect for her for everything she made it through.

And Dita, well, she's just incredible. Firstly I'd argue that she's more of a woman that women aspire to than men jerk off too. I know a lot of men who claim she's unattractive (personally, I think they're a little threatened because she's a strong woman) but a lot of women like her. Not even in a sexual way, I'm not sure what it is.

But the thing is, it comes down to a difference in opinion here, where I think it matters; I like sex, I like sexy things, I think that men have been using sex for hundreds of years to beat down women and I don't see any problem with women reclaiming it. I think the fault lies with the men who just can't stand that and have to bastardise it and turn it into something bad.

Edit: and I also like Dita because although she's so much more attractive than I could ever be, she doesn't make me hate myself. She always stressed that every woman has her wonderful attributes, she just needs to know how to show it and be proud of it. She's one of the only models I don't hate for being better than me

Oh and also, I don't like the "Beauty Tips From Pin-Up Girls" section - I love Snippets, but it's easily my least favourite part. I don't need to be told by someone like two years older than me how to apply lipstick in the same way I've been told by every magazine and book I've ever read since I was twelve. Most modern pin-up girls just rip off old models (come on, the last two main pictures of that section have just been cheap Bettie Page imitations).

Actually, there's a lot about that article I don't like...

That's sad about your friend Roma. One of my hubby's family/friend who shall remain nameless becuase he's a guy, just lost his v and he is 24. He was always proud of the fact, that he was and wanted to wait for the right person. So tell your friend their is hope.

And believe me.... I still remember being single it tough, all the more reason to make yourself feel sexy just for you, wether it's putting on your fave jeans and a t-shirt or going pin up style whatever works for you. (=
