Try something else then just a normal piece of fabric.
Look into your stash of fabric, are there some little pieces you can use..? Stich every piece (square, round, star whatever) on a boring piece of fabric ( a curtain or uglier) and tadaa when you are ready, you can make everything out it you like..

First thought: Ooo! Cute!
