Draw a "Cubist-style" Dog!
Pablo Picasso and Georges Braques invented "Cubism" in the early 20th Century. The idea was that they painted their subjects from all different directions, so that you might see the profile of a face and two eyes starting out at you in the same painting.

In this exercise we will make some crazy-looking dogs inspired by Cubism!

  • How to draw an animal drawing. Picasso Dogs - Step 1
    Step 1

The art here is just an example of what might happen! Your dogs will look very different!

Draw an eye anywhere on the paper.

  • How to draw an animal drawing. Picasso Dogs - Step 2
    Step 2

Turn the paper 90 degrees clockwise. Draw a second eye, three times larger than your first eye.

    Step 3

Turn the paper 90 degrees clockwise. Draw a nose or a snout.

  • How to draw an animal drawing. Picasso Dogs - Step 4
    Step 4

Turn the paper 90 degrees clockwise. Draw an ear.

(At any time you can start connecting your elements if you want.)

  • Step 5

Turn the paper 90 degrees clockwise. Draw a tail.

  • Step 6

Turn the paper 90 degrees clockwise. Draw a tongue.

  • Step 7

Turn the paper 90 degrees clockwise. Draw a paw.

  • Step 8

Now look at what you've drawn so far. Look at your paper all four directions. Hopefully one of those directions looked like a funny dog to you... now "finish" your dog. You can add ears, paws, make the eye into an ear, etc.

    Then color!
