  1. Step 1

    Step 1

First you need to model your doll parts out of clay. It's best to make the torso and head one long piece and then make the individual arms and legs separately.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Make holes through the arms and legs and then through the torso in the areas where the arms and legs would attach.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Bake the doll parts in the oven at 200°F for about half an hour. It's best to keep checking on them and take them out when they are hard.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Sew your doll a kimono undergarment that will fit her nice and tightly.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Dress the doll and thread a needle. Take the first arm and slip the thread through the hole and then pierce the dress and slip the needle through the arm's torso hole and out the other side.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

Slip the needle through the second arm. Pull the doll parts tight together, tie a knot and then cut off any excess thread.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Attach the legs through the lowers torso hole in a similar way to the arms but without piercing the dress.

  8. Step 8

    Step 8

Now we get to decorate our doll. Use really small brushes and paint on the Geisha's lipstick using bright red paint. Paint on the rest of the features.

  9. Step 9

    Step 9

Take your hair and some glue. You can use real human hair or synthetic depending upon what you can get a hold of. Luckily, I have a friend who has me cut his hair every month or so, so I always stash some away for projects like this. Glue the hair to the dolls head.

  10. Step 10

    Step 10

I folded my doll's hair back and re-glued it at the back to make her look more like a Geisha.

  11. Step 11

    Step 11

I made her kimono by taking some sparkly ribbon, placing it around her shoulders, bringing it across her chest and then tying it at the back. I left long tails to make it look like she had a flowing dress. I wrapped another length of ribbon around her waist for the bottom of the kimono.

  12. Step 12

    Step 12

I then tied a different colour or ribbon tightly around her waist to form her obi and secure her kimono in to place.

I have been looking for a long time as to how to make a clay doll. When i came up on your web site, I was completely astonished. Your doll is awesome and your instructions are simply explicit. Thanks so much.
