How can I make these pantaloons?

http://www.fcbd.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=343

these are absolutely awesome but I'm not sure to make them
would it just be pleated top, with very wide leg thingys
for the bottoms would the legs have to be longer and then an elastic pulling it together? or would that not work?

I'm just shooting some ideas around here, any inputs would be appreciated Happy

thanks

Hi Sofia. They are made with rectangular shaped fabric for the legs and top part.

The top part is the width of your hips + approx 4 inches for the width. You will need two pieces like this.

The length for the top part is from waist to crutch measurement with extra at the top for the elastic casting.
The length is important to make sure you have enough fabric for your body length.

You would make the legs approx 4-5 inch longer to get the fullness at the bottom.

To work out the width of the leg measure half the width of the top part. Then times that figure by 1 and a half or double it depending on how full you want the leg.

You can make each leg out of one piece of fabric (will give seam at centre back of leg) or two pieces of fabric (will give side seams). It is easier to make them with two pieces per leg.

The leg pieces are gathered and then stitched to the flat edge of the top piece.

Most dance trousers have wide soft elastic at the ankle and would probably be the easiest solution.

Indian trousers have bukram (very stiff interfacing)that is shaped into a shallow V towards the back leg seam to give the same effect.

Happy dancing. Hope this helps.
