DRIVING WHILE ON YOUR CELL

Driving while on their cell phones everyone does it right? This weekend I found out the dangers of it. On Saturday, my boyfriend and I were driving to his house from the humane society minding our own business and making plans foot the night. when our of the corner of my eye I saw this car come right at us, I panicked and tried to move out of the way and blacked out. When I opened my eyes my car was turned the opposite direction and I could hear myself scream at my bf, "don’t let them get away." My boyfriend tried to open the door but it wouldn’t budge so he had to climb out of the window and ran to the car. I was pretty much going through shock. a lady came to help me and make sure I was alright but I was so upset I couldn’t stop screaming it was horrible. finally the cops showed up there were witnesses who stated seeing her on her cell phone. supposedly she was on her cell phone driving way too fast and missed a stop sign that’s why she hit my car. thankfully she had insurance or it would have been worse. her parents came and apologized asking if it was my first car and what not, I just nodded biting my tongue so I wouldn’t say anything I would regret. After all the drama my bf and I were driving to my moms house and talking about the accident. he told me the stupid girl had actually pretended to be hurt when he went to their car, he just looked at her and said "are you alright? k. This is all your fault. “I was outraged she had the audacity to pull that. Really? Ugh. if my bf hadn’t grabbed the wheel I don’t know w hat would have happened. Now I’m even more scared of driving. My eyes get all teary when I’m in my car and if I even think about the accident I get more upset. I mean if my bf would have gotten hurt I don’t know what I’d do.

OMG! Thank goodness your bf was there, and that you have witnesses. I hope she gets a driving ban at least. You should get over the shock and be able to drive again, if not maybe get some kind of counselling.
People are so irresponsible in cars, they forget they are suposed to be controlling a machine that can cause lethal damage grrr. Loads of times I see people talking on their phone whilst driving, even the police do it.
I hope you recover soon.

Yeah it's illegal to drive while using a mobile here, so I get SO angry when my dad does it, especially because he has a huge Land Rover so if he hit someone a smaller car, he would crush it. It pisses me off when people use mobiles; it's bad enough to eat or smoke but mobiles are much worse.

It's meant to be illegal to eat while driving now, not sure about smoking. I don't know people even coordinate themselves to do it, I tried once to light a ciggy in my car years ago and failed and that was in a car park, so I never tried it again. I know someone who texts while driving which is just ridiculous.

Thats horrible! At least you and your boyfriend are alright though. I really wish talking on your cell while driving was illegal here but sadly its not. I really don't think a phone call is that important and if it is then you can pull to the side of the road and take it.

OMG thank goodness you are both alright!!!

I would NEVER answer my phone for that reason. Nothing is important enough for me to get into an accident. My dad has a hand held bluetooth built in car jazzy thing, but I think even that is dangerous, its not just the point of the physical danger of picking it up whilst your hands are meant to be on the wheel, it is the point that you become mentally distracted and pay less attention to the driving!!

I'm so glad you are ok, it is perfectly normal to feel weary and upset, you've been through a big traumatic event. Take time to adjust... you'll be fine in time.

Thank god your okay but its totally understandable that your in shock. She sounds a total idiot and those kind of people drive me mad. I don't even drive but when me and my boyfriend are out you see people taking the stupidest risks just to get where ever they are going quicker. When we had the really heavy snow in the UK we were driving to my bf's parents for the Christmas break and it we were leaving great big gaps between us and the people in front but it made us so angry the amount of people that hopped into the gap so they could get ahead. We have also seen people with their satnavs stuck on there screen so it obscures their view of the road. I don't know if people think they're playing a computer game or what they think they are doing but I definitely can understand your anger at this stupid woman. As Bec said, no call is that important. Also like Laurel said, maybe speak to your doctor if things don't get better with the shock. They can refer you for counselling. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

I worked with a professor in a research project that pretty much proved that driving while talking on the phone is more dangerous than driving drunk.

I don't understand why everyone gets upset about people talking on cell phones while driving. I live in Las Vegas and it isn't illegal here. I do it all the time, never have a problem. I don't see how it is any different than talking on a bluetooth or talking to your friend next to you. I think people that get in accidents while talking on the phone are just bad drivers period. NOW, texting and driving! I can't believe people do this! They aren't even looking at the road anymore! I see people doing this on the freeway everyday! My dad jsut got a ticket because he was texting while driving and he was going 80 in a 45 because he wasn't paying attention. He is a 61 year old man! Stupid.

I am sorry you got in an accident. And glad everyone seems to be okay.

think of it this way, not only did her insurance go up(as she caused the accident), and had to pay a fine(for the cell phone law) she lost about five points on her liscence for, running a stopsign, cell phone, and the accident. This may not be her first accident and her liscence will be revoked, which means no driving for a year.

And if you want, you can take her to court, she cause the accient and your distress.

People like that drive me nuts, I can't even drive and fiddle with the radio
