She's coming by my house on Tuesday and i'll give it to her then So i need to have this finished before then.
I'll post some pictures of what i have so far .
note: I read the books before i alter them

Okay so anyone have any Ideas on what to put between that last cat window pic and the secret compartment?
I'm afraid I have brain freeze right now, so no ideas, but just wanted to say that it looks brilliant, I really like the poems section and the little drawer
wow this is very beautiful!
wow I really like it especially the little draw how the hell do you cut through the pages do you just cut them individually?
thank yous
let me know if any ideas come up hehe
I've done window, door, secret compartment, drawer , spinny thing, pockets
I've tried looking for ideas in cards .. like that spinning heart was inspired by a homemade greeting card i saw i think at hgtv.com
I've been working on this thing for like a month hehe
for the drawer, i kinda eyeballed how deep the nich would need to be to fit the little box i was going to make into the drawer, then i gathered that amount of pages together and glued them all.
I made an outline of the drawer box to i know where to cut and got out my Xacto knife and got to it.
I cut several pages deep , pulled the rectangles of cut page out and continued like that till i reached the bottom.
I ended up accidentally going down at an angle while cutting the last 70ish pages making the bottom part wider.. and that's what brought about the embroidery thread wrapped around the box.. it helps the box get a snug fit and not jut fall right out .
gues it was a happy accident. that happens alot to me
That's AMAZING! I bet your mum's gonna love it =)
maybe use some acetate? you can photocopy images onto it like photos/text etc then layer it over other pages or cut out windows in the book and stick it inbetween pages (do you get what I mean? sorry its quite hard to explain)
you could embroider the pages?
one of my favourite things to do is to block out the text but leave random words so that they make a sentence, or cut out tiny windows in the next page so that said word show through (again hard to explain)
btw your paper tut. is fab
ty
I think i understand what you mean , don't have any acetate though i don't think.
i don't really knwo how to embroider.. but i can give it a try
I know what you mean about the blocking out of the words only letting some show , I'll look through the remaining pages and see if any good words are available.
thanks for the ideas
keep them coming people
very nice ^-^ but maybe a hint, use photos on to photopaper and not printed from te computer because than the quality goes down
(if you have used real photos, I'm blind :p)
simple embroidery stitches are really easy, and look wicked, heres a nice site with good pics
http://primrosedesign.blogspot.com/2006/10/stitch-school-split-stitch.html
also check out the other posts at the bottom of the page. I think what you do really depends on how flat you want the pages to lie, I've done loads of altered books, sketchbooks, book art etc and all of them I couldnt close after doing about 20 pages.
also, does the CD work? cos it'd be nice to do a mix of the songs that your mum loves and hide it in there
I printed the pictures on regular printer paper, don't have photo paper. I'm low on ink now lol so can't print anymore things out anyway hehe
I'll check out the site Rosie , ty.
I do want the book to be able to close , it's kind of thick now even after tearing out pages.
I'll be replacing the book sleeve/cover when i'm done so it'll help conceal it if she wants to put money or soemthing hidden in the round safe.
The cd is not usable. actually it has a pretty color and design on it. I microwaved it a couple seconds to give it a crackled look. it's purely just a top for the safe now.. but i'm having trouble keeping the paper glued on it.
