Hamster or gerbil. I had a Siberian dwarf hamster and I loved her to death. She was a good pet, but hamsters don't last long.

Would you want a dog? Try the humane society in your town, usually they have a nice selection of small dogs that need a home. Plus they are generally fixed and caught up on shots.

A betta fish. I use to have one they can live in a bowl, so you don't need an aquarium. The males come in great colors like maroon, purple and dark blue.

A rat...

I kept them for years, they last longer than the other small furry ones, they are intelligent and fun and loving. They really are amazing animals.

Hamsters are absolutely excellent, plus building and extending their cages can be made into a craft extravaganza! They are versatile easy to care for and very entertaining. Syrian females are pretty low maintenance, they don't smell and live individually.

Hamsters are annoying. Two of my sisters kept getting hamsters when they were in college and then I ended up having to take care of the nasty things. They stay up all night playing on their wheel or chewing on metal! I'm serious! I had the care of one who ate through the metal on his little water bottle and then climbed on top of it and would scratch on the metal of the screen! So annoying- I never got any sleep with that thing. I had another one that wouldn't let anyone pick her up- she bit you if you tried.

Go with a bird when you want them to go to sleep you just have to cover their cage and off to nod they go. Plus they have personalities and you can get them cute cages to live in.

A hamster, gerbil, rat or small rabbit could work very well. I love rodents. I've had many different kinds of pets but I still think rodents make the best pets. They most certainly have a unique personality. And unlike what most people will say, they don't stink. If you look after them properly the smell will NEVER be an issue

TBH fish are one of the easiest to look after but you can't interact with them that much.

Hamsters are not bad pets, you can interact with them more, BUT since they are nocturnal you will have to deal with it chewing the cage bars or a squeaky hamster wheel or something. Plus they need to be changed fairly frequently. They may say (at least) once a week but I did mine every other day because my room just smelt of hamster pee...

Rabbits aren't bad, depends on if you get an indoors or outdoors type... but again, they'd need changing, prob moreso if it's an indoor one -- due to the smell again. You also have to beware of bluebottles (especially in the summer -- as they can lay eggs in the rabbits bum, which can kill them) that's what killed off our rabbit when me and my sister where little.

I've never had a rat or mouse or Guinea Pig, but I would imagine it's fairly similar to keeping a hamster.

I think the easiest pet I've ever had (besides fish) are cats, you can interact with them, you haven't got to change their bedding or anything (unless you keep letting it use a litter tray - but most cats obv do their business in the garden, which you don't have to clean up like a dog), you feed & give them a drink them a few times a day and let them out every now and again.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a pet hedgehog, although I would imagine it's kind of like having a large prickly hamster Tongue but they are cuuuuuuuute!!

P.S: Rawr Rawr... my hamster did smell... it wasn't really bad but whenever I changed his cage, I would SCRUB the cage base and everything and I changed him practically every other day in the end. Maybe some rodents have stronger smelling wee than others??

Lolly Bot, I'm not sure if it makes a difference.. Maybe species makes a difference. My hamster smelled more than my mouse, but it wasn't bad.

And I also think a pet hedgehog would be awesome. I've always wanted one

Hm maybe, I only ever had one hamster and I did not want another pet like that...

I know, I really would love a little albino one, they are sooooo cute!!

But all hedgehogs are cute. Maybe one day when I have some money and my own place (after my cat has gone she doesn't want anymore pets in the house) I shall adopt one Happy

I have a Shih-Tzu, she's gorgeous. She's so smart and she's fun to be around. I feel empty without her being in the same room with me. I've had her since I was 10 years old and I'm 19 now. She truly is my best friend. Although, she's a mess to keep up with. I have to comb her everyday, she has allergies, eye problems and because she has long hair her ears get infected a lot.

I have a hamster too, Hades. He's a gray Russian Hamster and he's mean as Hades himself sometimes. But he doesn't stink. I usually tape his wheel when I'm sleeping so it wont disturb me and I buy him things for him to chew on so he won't chew on his cage. I've had him for a year now and even though he's kinda mean, he's fun. I let him outside and he'll play but he always runs back up to me.

I've had a guinea pig too, sweetest thing ever! He'd chirp and sing! He didn't stink either, but he drank and ate a lot!

I've also had a squirrel, Gomez and I really want another one. He'd sing and dance when I'd come home. I could let him out of his cage and he'd run around and play with me and my dog. Squirrels are really smart.

Rats are too, though I've never personally had one. I have a friend that did and he was adorable. Although the tail kinda freaked some people out.

But cages can stink if you don't clean them out regularly and properly. The animals themselves don't stink.

When Darling Chelsea said Squirrel I just remembered about chinchilla's, if you don't know what they are, they are kinda like a giant rat & squirrel combined. They are fairly cute and sweet tempered -- well my friends ones are.

I do agree darling chelsea, the only pet like that that actually stinks (as far as I know) are ferrets, but I'm sure someone said that you can fix that with an op or something??? I don't know.

If you're not scared of insects and reptiles (and your folks aren't) that could be another way to go. Personally they freak me out but my friend had a snake (and is getting another one) and she really loved it. Mind you, this is the same friend that has like 3 chinchilla's and did have a tortoise before the snake Tongue
